Joshua A. Berger is President and Managing Director, Warner Bros. Entertainment UK. Limited, a position he has held since February 2002. In this capacity, he is responsible for all of Warner Bros. Entertainment’s business activities in the United Kingdom and Ireland, overseeing Warner Bros. Pictures, Home Video, Television, Consumer Products and Interactive Entertainment.
His responsibilities include managing nearly 200 staff and the release of the studio’s feature film, TV and games production slates, which have recently included Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, 300, Blood Diamond, I am Legend, Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, E.R., The Sopranos and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles among many others.
Prior to this, Berger was Senior Vice President, International Sales and Business Development & Managing Director – Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) for Warner Bros. International Television, overseeing five sales offices and responsible for equity investments, strategic alliances, co-productions, channel development and new technologies throughout the EMEA region.
During that time he was on the board of directors of the digital satellite platforms Canal Satellite in France and Canal Satelite Digital in Spain, and was a founding director of the first private free-to-air broadcaster in South Africa, e.TV.
Berger first joined Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. in 1989. He began as Sales Executive in Paris from 1989 – 1991; Managing Director for Spain and Portugal, located in Madrid from 1992 to 1995, and then relocated to London in 1996 as Vice President of Business Development and Pay Television for Europe.
In 1983 his first job in the entertainment business was working in the mailroom of the William Morris Agency. From June 1986 to August 1987, on a sabbatical year from college, he worked at Lorimar-Telepictures in New York, Los Angeles and London. During that period, from October 1986 to March 1987, Josh also worked for Reteitalia in Milan, the entertainment and television division of Silvio Berlusconi’s Fininvest.
Berger currently sits on the board of directors of leading games publisher & developer, TT Games and the global newspaper group Metro International S.A. He is also a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), a member of the British Screen Advisory Council (BSAC), a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), an associate to the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), a member of the NSPCC’s ‘Rebuilding Childhoods’ Appeal Board, Vice President of the American friends of the Chicken Shed Theatre Company and a trustee of the Institute for Children.
He graduated with honours in General Studies from Harvard University in 1989. In June 2002 he completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
Berger is fluent in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese. Based in London, his hobbies include softball, squash, skiing, hiking and music.
